July 2018, Totum Research Inc. completed a survey to determine the news involvement and advertising preferences of Albertans living out of the major cities of the province.

Key Findings

  • Local news is most important to more Albertans than any other.
  • The printed local newspaper is the preferred source for all local information including news about people, events, jobs, businesses or sales and schools.
  • The printed local newspaper is also the preferred medium for information about local government programs and initiatives

 

Our members' weekly newspapers reach over 740,000 households and continue to grow in readership. Each of our 100+ members produce and publish their newspapers in the community in which they live, so content is tightly tied to what is truly important locally.

  • The benefits of a display ad but at the low cost of a classified ad, appears in all Alberta & NWT member newspapers
  • A black and white business card-sized ad, can be text only or include artwork and pictures.

  • Use artwork and design to attract readers to your message - then call them to action.  Display Ads can be any size from business card to full page and may include colour.
  • Chose to cover the whole province and NWT or select communities that are geographically or demographically most likely to respond.
  • Cost varies depending on size, use of colour, number of newspapers, or sometimes a current promotion.

Single or multiple page Insert Distribution
  • A single or multiple page insert that is delivered with the newspaper rather than printed in the newspaper pages.
  • These are pre-printed advertising or informational pieces to be received by targeted households through insertion into the community newspaper.
  • Using AWNA member newspapers to distribute gives your Insert its best chance of reaching your audience because they arrive inside the community newspaper which is expected and welcomed into the home at a much higher degree than junk mail.
